The Montana Natural Heritage Program is the state’s source for reliable, objective information and expertise to support stewardship of our native species and habitats, emphasizing those of conservation concern.

The Natural Heritage Program is also part of NatureServe--a network of over 80 similar programs in states, provinces and nations throughout the Western Hemisphere, bringing to Montana the “big picture” information on the true status of species and habitats.

The Montana Natural Heritage is part of the State Library’s Natural Resource Information System. It is operated as a special program under the Office of the Vice President for Research and Development at the University of Montana, Missoula.
